What is Hotuljska slatina or “acidic water”?
Hotuljska slatina is a natural Carinthian mineral water containing iron, also known as sour water or “miracle iron water.” It springs from just below Mount Uršlja and is recognizable by its unique mineral composition.
Why is the water at the Roman Spring special?
Due to its high natural content of iron and minerals, which support energy, balance, and well-being. As early as the 19th century, it was known as the Carinthian Roman Spring, where it was traditionally used to treat anemia, fatigue, digestive problems, liver and kidney problems, sore throats, and general exhaustion.
Is the water drinkable?
Yes, Hotuljska slatina is drinkable natural mineral water. It is freely available at the water fountain in the Roman Spring area.
How does the characteristic orange color of the spring originate?
Natural iron oxides react with air to create an orange color, giving the spring its distinctive appearance.

The easiest way to reach us is via the Ljubljana–Velenje–Slovenj Gradec–Kotlje or Maribor–Dravograd–Kotlje roads.
From Austria, access is possible via Bleiburg or Klagenfurt in the direction of Mežica and Raven na Koroškem.
Take the bus to Raven na Koroškem, then local transport to the Kotlje Rimski vrelec stop.
